Our Night in a Trullo

The trulli are pretty fascinating in their own right, and since our visit to Alberobello followed so closely after our stay in Matera, in a curious way the trulli emphasize contrasts with what we saw in the sassi there. More on that contrast later.

From Sasso to Trullo

It’s about an hour’s drive from Matera to Alberobello. Since we had about five hours between check-out and check-in, after checking out we went into downtown Matera and saw a movie about the Sassi that we had missed yesterday. Yesterday we toured the town and a cave dwelling, but the movie helped put it all into perspective, and I think we understand the situation better now.

We spent today exploring the city of Matera, which is something of a study in contrasts.

About the Contrarian

I’ve enjoyed two marvelous careers: first as a teacher of English and theatre (and, occasionally, psychology); and second as executive director of the North Eastern Ohio Education Association (NEOEA).

But I’ve always had other interests: public policy, parliamentary procedure, union leadership, music, genealogy, and photography. Since retiring in 2017, I’ve focused on those interests.

As is perhaps obvious, I’m still figuring out what I want to be when I grow up.
