I hope you’ve enjoyed singing along on this trip through Twelvetide. It’s hard to believe that we’ve come to the end of the Twelve Days! What better way to celebrate the Twelfth Day than with “Twelve Days of Christmas,” especially when provided by Julie and Friends?
Julie writes:
Everyone has childhood memories of Christmas music that they think back on fondly–whether it’s “Christmas Time is Here” from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” or “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” from Dr. Seuss’s “How The Grinch Stole Christmas.” Another popular favorite from the late 1970s is John Denver and the Muppets Christmas special and accompanying album “A Christmas Together.” One of the most delightful songs is their rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas.
[Bill here: one of our family’s favorites too!]
In the original version, Denver and the Muppets divide and conquer each of the verses. For our remake, Sofia takes the role of Miss Piggy while doubling on shaker, Giovanni stands in for Beaker, and Marcello takes Animal’s place on percussion. Julie plays piano and leads the singing while John gives a vocal assist and strums away on the banjo in an homage to Kermit!
We hope you enjoy singing along with us on this 12th day of Christmas!
And now the lyrics! Julie has provided the original Muppet assignments; you get extra credit if you can sing the parts in the original voices.
