NEOEA SLC Keynote

On Wednesday, I had the honor of delivering the keynote speech at NEOEA’s Summer Leadership Conference.

It was an interesting situation: I still had operational responsibility for the SLC (for example, making some housekeeping announcements from the same podium and calling “Advocate Bingo” afterward), but the keynote speech provided a rare opportunity to speak to NEOEA’s leaders on my own behalf.

I’m delighted and humbled that so many people told me they appreciate the speech. I record many of my presentations (as well as many of the liturgies I play at church) for later study, and I recorded this one.

The keynote wasn’t a campaign speech, but since it presented an opportunity to set out a vision for public education I’m making it available here. Warning: almost twenty minutes!

Note: registration for our event started as 1.3 million people were celebrating the Cavaliers’ championship victory in downtown Cleveland just a few miles to the north. Some of the audience had just come from that event!
